English-Language Tours in Barcelona: More Than Just Sightseeing

Barcelona is not a city you simply "tick off a list". Those who stick to the usual tourist trails miss the best of it. The real treasures of this city are often hidden behind an unremarkable door, down a quiet side street, or in the story of what looks like an ordinary fountain.
That's exactly why we at Barcelona Dragon Tours have been offering English-language guided tours for years. Not because we think you'd be lost without us. But because we believe a city like Barcelona simply tastes better when you know what you're looking at.
Why in English?
Barcelona speaks many languages. Catalan, Spanish, Tourist. But when a city is explained to you in your own language, it opens up in a completely different way. You catch the nuances, ask questions on the spot, laugh at things that get lost in translation.
And let's be honest: there's something rather wonderful about being in the middle of Barcelona and having someone explain to you – in English – why there's a pear hanging on the cathedral.
What should you absolutely experience in Barcelona?
That's a question people could argue about for hours. But here are our personal highlights:
The Sagrada Família, of course – but please don't just walk in and straight back out again. Take your time, look at the façades, try to understand the symbolism. It's worth it.
The Ramblas – yes, even though everyone says they're overcrowded and touristy. Fair enough. But they have their own very particular charm. And a history that most visitors never hear about.
Park Güell – best visited early in the morning, when the tour buses are still asleep.
Tapas in a bar that doesn't have an English menu. That's not a joke. It's the best proof that you've truly arrived.
And of course a stroll through the Barceloneta – ideally in the evening, when the heat has faded and the sea turns golden.
Off the beaten track
Everyone knows the Gothic Quarter. But did you know there are still traces of a Jewish community that disappeared in the 15th century? Or that a medieval bishop chose a pear as his personal coat of arms – for a reason that still makes us smile today?
These are exactly the kinds of stories we tell on our tours. Not because we're particularly clever, but because we've been wandering through this city for years and we simply love it.
Travelling with children or a group?
No problem. We have tours where the little ones go on treasure hunts, learn magic tricks and taste chocolate. And the adults have just as much fun.
With groups, we adjust the pace. We take breaks when breaks are needed. We answer questions, even when they interrupt the flow. That's not a drawback – it's the best thing about a private tour.
A few practical tips to finish
Book early, especially in summer. Wear comfortable shoes – seriously, this is not optional advice. Bring water. And come with curiosity. We'll take care of the rest.
Barcelona is waiting for you. And we look forward to showing you this city – with all its stories, contradictions and surprises.
See you soon on one of our tours. Your team at Barcelona Dragon Tours.
