Tour of the Born

When the Crown of Aragon ruled the Mediterranean in the 14th century and Barcelona became a centre of international maritime trade, the Born developed into the quarter of seamen and craftsmen. Many street names still remind us of the guilds that once settled here. For example, there is a street of silversmiths, cheese makers, mirror makers, wool sellers, rope makers, hoods - or cloth makers. In the 19th century, artists had their workshops and studios in the district. Even today, the Born is still the quarter of craftsmen and a place for fashion and design. On this English-speaking Barcelona tour you will explore this lively bohemian quarter and learn a lot about its remarkable history. Your guide will take you on a leisurely stroll through the lively lanes of the Born, past small boutiques, vintage and handicraft shops, charming cafés and wine bars. Some of the sights you will discover during the tour are the church of Santa Maria del Mar, the Pla de Palau, the Llotja, the Xifre House, the Ciutadella Park, and of course the Passeig del Born with the Mercat del Born and the Mulberry Cemetery. The culinary highlights are the best chocolate cake in the world and the best croissant in Spain
